In memoriam Dr. Bernd Lorenz
31 December 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Bernd Lorenz, who passed away on June 25, 2026 at the age of 67.
Bernd had been a member of the EAAP since April 1999 and was a key figure in the European aviation psychology community for many years. As a human factors expert and accomplished methodologist in the ATM field, his work at the DLR in Hamburg and Braunschweig, followed by his role at Eurocontrol, CRDS Budapest, and later at the Experimental Centre in Brêtigny made a significant contribution to the advancement of our discipline. He knew how to combine scientific excellence with practical impact.
Beyond his professional expertise, Bernd was a friend to many of us: friendly, objective, always approachable, and incredibly helpful. Those who worked with him remember his calm demeanor, his clear vision, his deep knowledge and his willingness to generously share his knowledge and time.
We will miss Bernd—as a valued colleague, as a fellow thinker, a trusted friend, and a delightful person. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, to whom we extend our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
