Frequently asked questions

Q: What are the benefits of EAAP membership?

A: EAAP provides a network for professionals working in aviation psychology and human factors through conferences, training courses and personal contacts including access to a protected discussion forum on this website and a subscription to the quarterly Ashgate Human Factors and Aerospace Safety Journal.

Q: Who can become a member of EAAP?

A: Psychologists working in one of the aviation domain or operational staff (pilots, controllers etc.) who are actively involved in human factors applications (CRM/TRM etc.) – see under Membership for more information.

Q: As a non-European citizen – can I also become a member of EAAP?

A: Yes – but only as an associate member regardless of whether you are a psychologist or an aviation professional working in aviation psychology or human factors

Q: How can I find and attend training courses in aviation psychology and human factors?

A: Although EAAP only runs training courses to a limited extent the association recognises certain courses, seminars and summer schools provided by aviation training establishments and consultants as acceptable means for EAAP certification - see under Courses and Certification for more information.

Q: I am providing aviation human factors training and want to receive EAAP recognition for my course(s) – what do I have to do?

A: You have to provide the course outline to the EAAP board for quality checking and approval. Once the course is approved, EAAP will advertise the course via this website if the course provider offers reduced course fees (15-20%) to EAAP members.

Q: What is the purpose of EAAP certification as either (Junior) Aviation Psychologist or Human Factors Specialist?

A: EAAP certification is meant as professional peer recognition for psychologists and aviation operators who actively deal with human factors applications in their day-to-day work. It requires relevant proof of qualification, education and activities in aviation psychology and/or human factors. However it is not equivalent to any academic degree or postgraduate specialisation (e.g. psychotherapist) - see under Certification for more information.
